England Golf Vacations!
I am truly not sure why golf courses in England are not as highly regarded as Scotland and Ireland in terms of quality golf courses, maybe it's because not all of the truly great English courses are links, but they do have an impressive number of championship courses worth visiting in all parts of the country, including clubs both new and old, inland and links.
England to me is split into three great golfing areas, don't get me wrong there are other great courses in England scattered here and there but to my mind these three areas stand out.
Northwest England: Merseyside is home to England's highest concentration of British Open championship links courses: Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool, and Royal Lytham & St. Anne's. Merseyside also boasts another four championship standard courses: Hillside, Formby, Southport & Ainsdale, and Hesketh, are all superb courses providing a challenge to the most accomplished golfer.
Southeast England: Kent's great golf is about a two hour drive from the center of London and host to Open Championship courses as well. The 2011 Open Championship host Royal St. George's, and former host Royal Cinque Ports, which last had the event in 1920, don't forget the Princes course and historic Parkstone Golf Club is one of England's better hidden gem parkland courses as well.
Metropolitan London: Host to some of the country's most prestigious golf clubs and resorts like Wentworth, Sunningdale, Walton Heath, The Berkshire, St. George's Hill, Swindley Forest, and Woburn. And don't forget Stoke Park, home to the famous cinematic duel between James Bond and Goldfinger, and also home to England's oldest club, Royal Blackheath, which boasts a history of over 400 years of golf played on its ground.
Other great English golf courses would be Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Brabazon (The Belfry), Woodhall Spa, Sauton, Ganton, Rye, Little Aston, and Royal Ashdown Forest to name a few.
