World Golf Championship
Barbardos World Cup

Sandy Lane Resort
Country Club Course
St. James, Barbados

The 2006 World Golf Championships-Barbados World Cup will mark the sixth playing of this event as a member of the World Golf Championships series. These events, which debuted in 1999 and also include the Accenture Match Play Championship, Bridgestone Invitational and American Express Championship, are sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours.

In last year’s Algarve World Cup in Portugal, Stephen Dodd and Bradley Dredge of Wales, earned a two-stroke victory over the English team of Luke Donald and David Howell and Henrik Stenson and Niclas Fasth of Sweden to win the John Hopkins Trophy at Victoria Clube de Golfe-Vilamoura in the Algarve region of Portugal.

The field for the 2006 Barbados World Cup will consist of two-man teams representing 24 different countries. Eighteen teams are comprised of top players from the Official World Golf Ranking, with three more teams earning a place in the field at a qualifier in Asia and three more from a competition in Mexico. Teams will play for a total purse of US$4 million, with the winning team splitting US$1.4 million.

The venue for the 2006 Barbados World Cup will be the Country Club Course at Sandy Lane Resort in St. James, Barbados. This will mark the third time that the event will be held in the Caribbean, with Puerto Rico having played host in 1961 and 1994.

Two dream-team pairings for the United States account for eight World Cup titles in the event’s 45-year history. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus won in 1963-64 and 1966-67. More recently, Fred Couples and Davis Love III dominated from 1992-95. Tiger Woods has won the event twice, teaming with Mark O’Meara in 1999 and David Duval in 2000.
